Our Animals
Nina
Bald Eagle
Nina is our awe-inspiring bald eagle and the unforgettable opener of the WILD Wings Bird Show. Hatched in 2017 at Hagley Falconry Centre, just down the road from us, she joined the WILD family in 2020 and has been capturing hearts ever since—especially that of her best friend and keeper, Alice.
From the moment they met, Nina and Alice formed an unbreakable bond. So close, in fact, that Nina’s call is even Alice’s text message tone! When she first arrived, Nina was a striking jet black, but she’s now grown into her full adult plumage, proudly displaying the iconic white head that gives her species its name.
Weighing in at an impressive 9 pounds 70 ounces, Nina truly has the WOW factor. She’s a powerful presence in flight and a spectacular sight to behold. Her favourite treat? A fresh roach fish!
Fun fact: Nina was hatched just one day apart from her future mate, Philippe, who was born in Belgium. Talk about fate!
Come witness Nina in action—she’s big, bold, and absolutely breathtaking.
Mo
Trumpeter Hornbill
Mo is our incredibly intelligent trumpeter hornbill and a true star of the WILD Wings Bird Show. He joined us from Tropical Butterfly House in Sheffield and quickly settled in with the expert training of Keepers Amber and Sam Halford.
Since arriving, Mo has become a standout character, showcasing his natural talents and charm on stage. He’s especially motivated by his favourite treat—blueberries—and always brings energy and personality to every performance.
Mo is a fantastic ambassador for his species and a firm favourite with visitors. Don’t miss the chance to see him in action at WILD!
Cybil
Green-winged Macaw
Cybil holds a very special place in WILD’s heart — she was Zacs’ very first parrot, joining the team in 2007, and the original star of our bird shows. As the first parrot to take part in Wild Wings, she paved the way for the incredible flock we have today.
A true diva through and through, Cybil is known for being the last bird to leave the stage — she simply loves the spotlight! Her signature move? Dancing to Shakira, of course. When the music starts, so does Cybil.
She’s absolutely food-obsessed, and if there’s a snack in sight, nothing is safe. Her love for tasty treats is only rivalled by her love for Aero — her charming, younger boyfriend (he’s a whole ten years her junior!).
With her stunning scarlet, green, and blue feathers and her big personality, Cybil continues to steal the show and the hearts of everyone she meets.
Rufus
Burrowing Owl
Rufus is just two years old and full of energy! This charismatic little owl loves sprinting through his network of tunnels and is always on the go. His favourite treat? A tasty mouse, of course!
Rufus stars in our Secret Life of the Owls shows during the summer months, where he brings a delightful dose of comedy and charm to the stage. With his curious nature and speedy legs, he never fails to win the hearts of visitors.
Burrowing Owls like Rufus are a widespread species across the Americas and are full of surprising behaviours. In the wild, they’ve developed their own clever version of Deliveroo — collecting animal dung to place outside their burrows to attract insects, making for a quick and easy snack. They’re also masters of defence, imitating the sound of rattlesnakes to scare off potential predators!
Unlike many of their owl cousins, Burrowing Owls are diurnal, meaning they’re active during the day — just like Rufus, who’s always ready to explore and entertain.
Pixie & Charlie
Cotton-Eared Marmosets
Pixie was born in 2012 and has been part of the WILD family ever since. In 2015, she was joined by Charlie, who came to us from Gentle Shore Wildlife Centre as her perfect match — and the two have been inseparable ever since.
These tiny primates are full of personality and affection. You’ll often spot them sunbathing side by side or grooming one another — true signs of their close bond and love for each other.
Pixie and Charlie enjoy a diet of steamed vegetables and their favourite treat: marmoset gum, a naturally sweet sap that they absolutely adore.
Come say hello — if they’re not napping in the sun, they’re probably keeping a close eye on visitors from the treetops!
Eddie
Brahminy Kite
Eddie joined us from the British Bird of Prey Centre and was the very first member of our incredible kite flying team. Native to Asia and Australia, Brahminy Kites are known for their striking appearance and impressive aerial skills.
Eddie is a true showstopper — she expertly snatches food from the air with her feet and passes it to her beak mid-flight, never missing a beat. She’s especially fond of fish for dinner and is famously chatty with her keepers during their morning rounds.
A confident flier with a lot to say, Eddie brings grace, skill, and personality to every display.
Kevin & Patricia
White-Backed Vulture
Kevin and Patricia are African White-Backed Vultures, critically endangered and incredibly important to the health of our planet. Hatched in 2017 at Extreme Falconry, they’re technically siblings—Kevin is the older one, though he’s actually the smaller of the two. He loves soaring on thermals, while Patricia is a little more reserved.
Vultures like Kevin and Patricia are nature’s clean-up crew, feeding on carcasses that could spread deadly diseases such as rabies, anthrax, and botulism. Their role is vital, but tragically, their wild population has declined by 98%—mainly due to poisoning by poachers and loss of safe habitat.
Here at WILD, we’re proud to support VulPro, a leading vulture conservation charity, and the Hawksman Trust, which helps protect wild birds through research, education, and welfare work. Kevin and Patricia are helping raise awareness for vultures everywhere—and we’re proud to have them soaring the flag for their species.
Baloo
Palawan Binturong
Born in 2013, Baloo is one of WILD’s most iconic residents. Hand-reared by our very own director, Zac Baloo (affectionately known as Popcorn Bear), has grown into a charming and laid-back character with a very distinctive scent – yes, he really does smell like buttery popcorn!
Baloo’s days are delightfully relaxed. He enjoys lounging in the sunshine or snoozing in his cosy, heated shed. Occasionally, he’ll pop out to join in with our Wild Wonders presentations, but only if he’s in the mood – he likes to do things on his terms.
He’s especially fond of bananas and grapes and he starts his mornings with a unique little ritual – a cheeky wee on his freshly cleaned bed. His best friend is our deputy head keeper, Emily, and he shares his home with some rather interesting neighbours: Patrick the civet and our lively otters, Louie and Mara.
Baloo might be relaxed, but he’s full of personality – and we wouldn’t have him any other way.
Brian
Greater Hairy Armadillo
Born in 2021 right here at Wild Park, Brian had a bit of a rocky start. Sadly, his parents, Inca and Rex, didn’t take to parenting, and Brian was rejected as a newborn. But our amazing keepers, Emily and Alice, stepped in to hand-rear him with round-the-clock care until he was strong and independent enough to feed himself.
Like all armadillos, Brian doesn’t have the best eyesight—but he more than makes up for it with an incredible sense of smell and hearing. In fact, he knows his own name and responds when called!
Brian’s dad, Rex, now lives at Newquay Zoo, while Brian continues to charm visitors here at Wild Park with his unique personality and loveable nature.
Louie & Mahra
Asian Short-clawed Otters
Louie and Mara, our adorable Asian short-clawed otters, joined WILD in 2024. Both born in 2022, they came to us as an unrelated pair — and it was love at first sight.
When Louie first arrived, he was shy and reserved, but everything changed the moment Mara came along. The pair instantly bonded, and since then, they’ve been inseparable. As a monogamous species, these two will stay together for life, and their affection is plain to see.
They’re often spotted kissing under the waterfall or carefully picking out their favourite pebbles for each other — a sweet gesture of love in the otter world. Their bond is heartwarming, and they’ve quickly become one of the most beloved pairs at WILD.
