Celebrating World Wildlife Day 2025: Financing the Future of Wildlife!
Today is #WorldWildlifeDay and around the world we’re spotlighting the vital role of wildlife conservation finance in protecting species and ecosystems. Conservation isn’t just about passion—it requires funding for habitat restoration, anti-poaching efforts, and sustainable community programs.
Today in Geneva, experts from around the world will meet to highlight and share innovative financial pathways to mobilise the financial resources needed to invest in our planet’s future.
Here’s how smart conservation financing is helping some of the incredible species found at WILD!:
Vultures – These misunderstood scavengers play a crucial role in keeping ecosystems clean, but they face many threats from poisoning to habitat loss. Funding for vulture-safe medication alternatives and ranger protected feeding zones helps prevent their decline.
Macaws – Macaws in Central and South America suffer from habitat destruction and the illegal pet trade. Eco-tourism and reforestation programs, supported by conservation funds, help restore their forest homes and provide sustainable livelihoods.
Binturongs – “Popcorn bears” like Baloo are key seed dispersers in Southeast Asia’s forests. Conservation finance supports wildlife corridors and community-led conservation initiatives, ensuring their survival.
Lemurs – Found only in Madagascar, lemurs are among the world’s most endangered primates. Innovative funding models, like carbon credit programs and conservation trusts, help protect their forest habitats while benefiting local communities.
When we invest in wildlife, we invest in the health of our planet. Let’s support policies and initiatives that fund conservation and ensure future generations can enjoy the beauty and benefits of biodiversity!
How can you help? Donate to conservation organizations, support eco-friendly businesses, and advocate for sustainable policies. Every action counts!
Whenever you visit us, and purchase something in our gift shop, or donate at the end of the bird show, you are contributing to the conservation funds that we send directly to our 4 charities: Vulpro, The Horstmann Trust, AB Conservation, and Macaw Recovery Network. This money helps to fund projects such as the planting of 10,000 trees at a great green macaw breeding reserve in Costa Rica!
This World Wildlife Day, we’re asking you to share your favourite wildlife photos with us! We will select a winner in 1 week’s time, and our winner will receive 2 free tickets to visit WILD Zoological Park.
