Today is World Civet Day!
2025 Theme: Coffee!
Ever heard of Kopi Luwak?
This is the world’s most expensive coffee, which is actually produced by Civets & many members of the Viverrid family. These animals are caught out of the wild and kept in cages. Force fed a diet of coffee beans, which ferments inside the digestive system and eventually is pooped out of the animals! Humans then use the sweetened coffee beans to drink!
In recent years Binturongs have been captured and used for the same process! This is because they are bigger animals. Bigger animals means larger poo, so more coffee beans! These caged animals often die of caffeine toxicity, injury and stress!
Here at the park we have 2 of the Viverrid family Patrick, our Asian Palm Civet & Baloo our Palawan Binturongs. Who continue to educate the public about their species and the troubles they face out in the wild.
All money raised on World Civet Day goes towards the programs that The Civet Project run to save and educate about these amazing species.
Donate direct today, any support BIG or small is beneficial to these animals
